I am very thankful that I have always had a lot of interests in life, and that I have had the great fortune to be able to immerse myself in many of them over the years. I think they call that “life experience”.
When it comes to writing and blogging, most “authorities” suggest finding a niche and then writing about it. That’s easy if you only have one or two areas in your life that tantalize your intellectual and emotional senses. When I started writing in earnest, I thought that keeping work separate from life was the “right” thing to do. But as I have found a voice in my writing, I have discovered that “who I am” meanders through all of it, providing that “je ne sais quoi” that makes it all a reflection of me.
There is always a lot happening down at my Crossroads of work and life. Here’s what to expect on this website and blog in the weeks ahead. I hope you’ll come along for the ride.
This website has, over time, become the foundation for my creative process and the podium from which I speak to the world. It has become an integral part of a deeper purpose and meaning in the grand scheme of life. Part of that deeper purpose is to simply share life experiences. I truly believe that everyone has a story to tell, and I am fortunate to have the capacity and ability to share mine. With any luck, perhaps someone will find some resonance in a clinical insight or personal memoir, and maybe it will inspire someone to share their story with the world.
The other part of that deeper purpose is profound cultural change in our system of health. The Smart Life Project is the embodiment of that deeper purpose, a broad vision of what the world of health could be like if we simply changed the rules and changed the world. That’s the part of me that should have been a young adult in the late ‘60’s. I guess when I look at the Big Picture, I look at the Really Big Picture. Why think small when you can live large?
The Smart Physio blog will provide posts and multimedia that are directly related to what I do on a daily basis – the “professional” side of my world, if you will. These posts will focus on the core elements of the Smart Life Project: Physiotherapy, Performance, and Prevention. Here you will find white papers, case studies, relevant research and links, how-to articles, and other media productions such as “The MDT Minute” videos and the “Consumer’s Guide To Health” podcasts. There will also be a free biweekly newsletter available in the near future which will provide subscriber-only features and content. As I have mentioned before, “The SMART Starts Here”. The Smart Physio blog will appear on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The Rhubarb Diaries blog will provide posts and media that are directly related to my personal perspectives, humor, and commentary on sports, politics, and life in general. They will explore my thoughts on the world around me (Rhubarb Ruminations) and the experiences that have made me who I am, memoir-style – the Rhubarb Diaries. The Rhubarb Diaries blog will appear on Tuesday and Thursday.
Subscription and RSS information can be found here. This new schedule will begin the week of August 15 – to celebrate the 21st anniversary of my move to Austin, Texas.
Thanks to all of you who have joined me here over the past 5 years and continue to read my thoughts, insights, humor and perspectives. Maybe you will find some personal or professional value in all of it. In the coming months and years, I hope to provide more snippets of a life lived without conformity, a life lived with spirit and vibrancy.
