There are a number of ways that you can work with me, either on an individual, group, or community basis.
The Besselink Project is an initiative focusing on individual and community self-transformation via health mentoring, adaptive learning experiences, and self-mastery. These programs and services reflect my desire to mentor individuals and groups in how science-based principles apply to their health, training, and day-to-day lives to foster growth and personal transformation. A consistent theme of the Besselink Project is the development of Competencies of Self Care with the long-term goal of a sustainable health ecosystem.
The Besselink Project encompasses several services and programs:
Smart Sport International - Physiotherapy and Coaching
Smart Sport International is a Certified McKenzie Clinic offering orthopedic physiotherapy services specializing in injury recovery utilizing Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), otherwise known as the McKenzie Method. Smart Sport International specializes in the problems of the runner (RunSmart) and musician (RiffSmart) with health mentoring services emphasizing performance and injury prevention.
Smart Physio - Clinician Mentorship And Mastery Programs
I am one of the few McKenzie Diplomats in the world that have focused specifically on sports injuries. I continue to work directly in patient care and provide various clinical mentorship and mastery programs for other clinicians in the area of MDT and sports. These programs focus on professional development in practice-specific areas (such as running injuries and MDT and the Athlete) and career planning for new graduates and established clinicians.
RunSmart - A Comprehensive Approach To Injury-Free Running
"RunSmart: A Comprehensive Approach To Injury-Free Running" (2008) is the basis for several educational programs for recreational and elite athletes as well as clinicians (including physiotherapists). A subset of free resources for injured runners can be found here.
I have done a broad range of speaking engagements, from small groups to large international conferences. A full list of speaking topics, along with prior speaking engagements, can be found here.
Along with writing regular posts for my blog, I am also the author of "RunSmart: A Comprehensive Approach To Injury-Free Running" (2008). I have a number of writing projects currently in progress, including "The Smart Life Revolution".
I recently co-authored a chapter (with Bridget Clark, PT) in the 4th edition of "Clinical Orthopaedic Rehabilitation" by Giangarra, Manske, and Brotzman, as well as the 3rd edition by Brotzman and Manske. This orthopedic text is the number one selling orthopedic text for physical therapists worldwide.
More information on my freelance writing and editorial work can be found in the section on "Writing". I have written articles for many groups and publications, including the Austin Runner's Club, McKenzie Institute International, National Masters News, and others.
