Palin-Perry 2012?

Thursday, 05 February 2009 16:02

Just when we all thought that Tina Fey was going to get a bit of a break ...

... when we all thought that perhaps Governor Palin's Warhol-ian "15 minutes of fame" had already gone into overtime ...

... she reappears to endorse none other than Governor Rick Perry of Texas in his run for re-election in 2010.

First questions first: why do the media continue to attend to her? Is anyone seriously listening to any of this?

In the lead-up to the recent election, there are plenty of people that were waking up at night in a pool of sweat as they were dreaming of the potential of Governor Palin taking the reins of the Presidency. I don't know about you, but I had just barely finished counselling to rid me of the nightmares that had descended upon me [insert sarcastic tone here]. Seriously though, the more interviews and debates I witnessed, the less I could understand just why the Republican party would have selected her.

Why? 2012 - of course.

That became readily apparent to me - and quickly. Here's my rhetorical question ... were the Republicans using 2008 to groom Palin for 2012? Were they using this as an opportunity for her to get her feet wet in federal politics with the long-term goal of pushing her towards a 2012 nomination?

And now ... she appears out of nowhere to throw her support behind Governor Perry. Yeah team! Palin noted that Perry "sticks by his guns - and you know how I feel about guns." I can hear the theme music of "Gunsmoke" in the background as they both ride off into the sunset. "Happy trails ... to you ... "

Why am I now having visions of a Palin/Perry Republican ticket in 2012? And why does it make me squirm? It's only 2009!!!

I guess if you're a Democrat, this would be just the ticket you would hope for in 2012.
